Stoppages (World Map Project)

Photography: Rachel Topham

Stoppages is designed as a portable unit that involves polyester straps of the type commonly used for the purposes of restraint or containment; these render the land borders of each sovereign country in the world at a scale of 1:1,000,000. This highly abstracted world map can be shown in varying constellations. In 2025, a year marked by trade-related tensions between the USA and Canada, Stoppages was shown at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver with the straps representing the borders of those two countries laid out side by side.
