String Theory

String Theory announces itself at first only through a rhythmic sound, reminiscent of a heartbeat or possibly the muffled sounds of nearby construction work, gaining in intensity as it lures the visitor closer to the work.

A flicker of movement in the peripheral vision directs the gaze to a tiny figure at the base of one of the walls: a small video displays a person skipping — haltingly and not very proficient — the luminescent rope highlighted against black surroundings. As the figure endlessly repeats this exercise, she crosses her hands, creating momentary forms that resemble a figure ‘8’, an infinity symbol, or a Möbius strip. Each skip, each repetition, eradicates the periodic appearance of this symbol.

String Theory. A Note: Peter Culley
